About the IFRS — Expert certification
The capstone of the IFRS ladder, for preparers, technical accountants, auditors and controllers who must apply the standards where judgement is hardest and the guidance is newest. It is built around advanced application rather than recall. You will work through complex group accounting — piecemeal (step) acquisitions with remeasurement of a previously held interest, partial disposals with and without loss of control, changes in ownership that retain control treated as equity transactions, and the consolidation and translation of foreign subsidiaries under IAS 21 and IFRS 10. You will master hedge accounting in depth (fair value, cash flow and net investment hedges, documentation and effectiveness), the 10% test for modifying financial liabilities, embedded derivatives and the own-use exemption. Dedicated modules cover IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts (the General Measurement Model, the Premium Allocation Approach and the Variable Fee Approach, the contractual service margin and risk adjustment); the ISSB sustainability standards IFRS S1 and S2 with Scope 1/2/3 emissions and scenario analysis; and the new presentation regime — IFRS 18 (effective 2027, replacing IAS 1) and IFRS 19. It closes with IFRS 1 first-time adoption, IFRIC 23 and an integrated multi-standard capstone. Illustrated throughout with Mermaid diagrams, journal entries and fully worked numeric examples.
