Cybersecurity Architect Expert

Design secure enterprise architectures and defend them under real constraints

Key facts

About the Cybersecurity Architect Expert certification

The Cybersecurity Architect Expert certification is the capstone credential of the BC Skills security ladder. It is an exam-only, proctored-style assessment: there is no bundled course — you are expected to arrive with deep, hands-on security architecture experience and demonstrate judgment, not recall. The exam is scenario-heavy and trade-off driven. Almost every question puts you in front of a real business constraint — a compliance mandate, a risk appetite, a latency or cost ceiling, a recovery objective, an identity-at-scale requirement — and asks you to choose the best control or architecture among several plausible options, then understand why the tempting alternatives are inferior. Domains assessed at expert depth: enterprise security architecture (SABSA, zero-trust, defense-in-depth, secure-by-design); identity and access management at scale (IAM, PAM, federation, SSO, conditional access, least privilege); network and cloud security architecture (segmentation, micro-segmentation, secure landing zones, egress control); data protection, cryptography and key management (HSM, KMS, PKI, envelope encryption, tokenization); application and API security (secure SDLC, STRIDE threat modeling, DevSecOps, supply-chain integrity); governance, risk and compliance (NIST CSF, ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI-DSS, GDPR); risk management and quantification (qualitative vs quantitative, ALE, FAIR); security operations and resilience strategy (detection engineering, SOC, SIEM/SOAR); business continuity and disaster recovery (RTO/RPO, immutable backups); third-party and supply-chain risk; and security program and policy design. The credential is vendor- and cloud-agnostic: principles transfer across on-prem, AWS, Azure and Google Cloud. Candidates must already hold the Ethical Hacking & Penetration Testing and Security Operations & Incident Response credentials; this expert exam builds directly on both — pairing the attacker's and the defender's mindset with architect-level judgment. Validity is 24 months.
